HIKERS AND MOUNTAIN BIKERS: LIVING WITH THE ANIMALS OF OUR MOUNTAINS

The patous

Who are they?

Patous are large dogs that protect the herds.
To understand them, watch.

How do you spot them?
They're always with the flock of sheep
Signs announcing their presence

So what to do in their presence?
Bypass the flock and the ewes' grazing areas to a large extent
Do not try to approach the sheep (pet them, feed them and even take pictures of them)
Stay calm in front of the dog without making sudden movements
If you're with your dog, don't get between it and the patou, let them sniff each other and get used to each other
If you're on a bike, get off and walk quietly next to it
If the dog comes towards you, stop to let him identify you
