Each year it brings together more than 25 mushers and their 300 dogs, from all over Europe, in the stunning landscapes of Savoie Mont Blanc.

It is more than 50 000 spectators who live every year a unique experience, in 20 stations decorated for the occasion, by attending La Grande Odyssee Savoie Mont Blanc.

The competition takes place over 12 days, from January 11 to 22, 2020, covering 400 km (nearly a marathon per day) and 25,000 m of elevation gain, including 15,000 m of elevation gain, representing 3 times the ascent Mont Blanc from Chamonix. Each year, it brings together more than 25 international mushers and their 400 top-level athletic dogs, in the superb landscapes of Savoie Mont Blanc.
More than 50,000 spectators live each year a unique experience, in the heart of 20 resorts, cities and villages in festive clothes for the occasion, by attending La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc.

Peisey-Vallandry will host the seventh stage of the competition on January 18, 2020.
For this stage, there will be 3 categories of races: 10 mushers from 5 to 6 dogs for the Eukanuba Trophy (race taking place over 2 stages), 9 mushers in limited category (from 5 to 6 dogs) and 16 mushers in open category (from 6 to 10 dogs)

Estimated race times (route and times subject to change depending on weather conditions):
From 2:30 pm to 3:40 pm : Departure of competitors at Pont Baudin (Nordic site),
From 3 pm to 5 pm : Passage of competitors to the Lanches (easy access by foot)
From 4.15 pm to 5.30 pm : Arrival in Pont Baudin and Prize-giving.

La Grande Odyssée is also an entertainment program :
- From 10 am to 4 pm, find around the departure area at the entrance of Pont Baudin a whole entertainment area with goodies to be won and wonderful entertainment times (you can find various catering outlets on spot).
Come take a picture with Aigle Bondissant and his huskies / You can meet the Bear (the beautiful mascot of the Far North), discover the approach of the husky and the Husky dance launched by Aigle Bondissant ...
- From 10 am to 3 pm, you will also be able to observe all the preparation of our mushers champions and their dogs and thus see their impressive departure.
- From 10 am to 2 pm, you will be offered an introduction to Nordic practices (¾ hour sessions): 5 snowshoes initiation sessions, 5 cross-country initiation sessions and 5 biathlon initiation sessions (Registration and loan of equipment at the reception of the cross-country ski center and supervision by the ESF, all free).
- From 10 am to 1 pm: Wildlife awareness point with the guards-monitors of La Vanoise National Park in front of the Nordic center of Pont Baudin.
- At 10 am. and at 2 pm : Chainsaw ice sculpture in front of the cross-country ski center (3/4 hour to 1 hour of sculpture with Nicolas Gombert).
From 4 pm, meeting point in Plan Peisey (at the foot of the Parchey chairlift) to see the arrival and the award ceremony!
 
An exceptional shuttle system will be offered on Saturday from Plan Peisey to Pont Baudin with shuttles every ten minutes from 9 am to 4 pm.

La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc is since it's first edition in January 2005, the annual event of the dog sled race in Europe. It is the most demanding stage race in a unique alpine setting in the world.
