Cross-country skiing

The Nordic escape

In Peisey-Vallandry, we have a real cross-country skiing culture, which has even produced gold medallists such as Éric Perrot!

In the peaceful setting of the Vallon de Rosuel and at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park, the Nordic area offers nearly 40km of groomed trails for skating and classic skiing.

Skating? Classic? Biathlon? What's that?

Cross-country skiing is a Nordic discipline practised on groomed trails and involves several techniques, each offering unique sensations.

Classic cross-country skiing

  • The traditional Nordic skiing technique.
  • The skis move in two parallel tracks carved into the snow.
  • The movements are similar to walking or running, making it an accessible and ideal method for beginners.
  • Perfect for enjoying the scenery at a gentle pace and building endurance.

Cross-country skating

  • Also known as the ‘skating stride’, this technique is inspired by ice skating.
  • The skis glide diagonally across the snow, off the tracks, with a dynamic and athletic movement.
  • It is a more physical technique that requires balance and coordination, ideal for those seeking speed and intense effort.

Biathlon

  • A comprehensive discipline combining cross-country skating and rifle shooting at targets 50 metres away.
  • It combines endurance, precision and stress management, as the heart rate must slow down quickly in order to shoot accurately.
  • Introductory sessions are available in Peisey-Vallandry, offering a unique and enjoyable experience.

Trails suitable for all levels

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced cross-country skier, you will find what you are looking for among the marked and daily maintained trails:

  • Beginners' loop (La Cröe, orange level) to learn the basics of cross-country skiing in complete safety.
  • Intermediate trails (green and/or blue runs) for a climb up to the Bettières plateau at your own pace.
  • More challenging circuits (red and/or black runs) for those who want to ski like Éric Perrot or Martin Fourcade.

An exceptional natural setting

Far from the hustle and bustle of the Alpine slopes, the Nordic area is a true haven of peace. You will find yourself in the heart of unspoilt nature, crossing larch forests, snow-covered glades and high-altitude landscapes. In the background, the silence is broken only by the sound of skis crunching on the snow.
