Focus on the Vanoise National Park
A natural gem at the gates of Peisey-Vallandry
Created in 1963, the Vanoise National Park is France’s very first national park. A true pioneer in the protection of the Alpine ibex, it has been working for over 60 years to preserve nature, alpine landscapes, and the diversity of plant and animal species. In Peisey-Vallandry, we’re lucky enough to be able to “knock on the Park’s door,” with the Rosuel Valley forming one of its most beautiful gateways.
In winter: wild nature under the snow
In winter, the Park reveals a soothing and majestic side. The snow-covered panoramas of the Rosuel Valley, the glaciers of Mont Pourri and Bellecôte, as well as the frozen waterfalls of the Plan de l’Épinerie, offer a breathtaking natural spectacle. And for those who enjoy gentle gliding, the Peisey-Nancroix Nordic area runs along the edge of the Park — a preserved, peaceful, and inspiring space, perfect for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or simply taking a deep breath of fresh air.
Every Thursday afternoon during the February and Easter school holidays, the Vanoise National Park offers free wildlife observation activities starting from Pont Baudin.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., meet at Pont Baudin in Peisey and take the pedestrian trail towards the Rosuel refuge. A viewing point is set up near the hamlet of Les Lanches, where mountain wildlife can often be spotted. Park rangers share their knowledge about the local species and their survival strategies during winter.

In summer: the kingdom of hiking and discovery
At the gates of the Park, set off to explore a breathtaking environment: Mont Pourri, Grande Casse, Lac de la Plagne... The luckiest visitors may spot ibex, chamois, marmots, bearded vultures, or golden eagles. The trails are accessible to everyone — families with strollers, people with reduced mobility, or cyclists on easy routes — allowing you to enjoy unspoiled nature at your own pace.
Not to be missed:
- The Rosuel Visitor Centre, a must-see spot featuring exhibitions, immersive displays, and fun learning modules for all ages.
- Exhibitions on birds of prey (including the bearded vulture), adaptation to winter, and climate change.
- New sensory installation: a bone-conduction listening station to hear the songs of Rosuel’s nesting birds.
- Temporary exhibition 2025: “Là Eau – Water, Glaciers and Us,” dedicated to glaciers and water resources.
Dogs are not allowed in the heart of the Park (except with specific authorization).
A sustainable commitment
The Vanoise National Park embodies a philosophy: to protect, understand, and share. It reminds us all of the importance of preserving our mountains, their biodiversity, and their landscapes. In Peisey-Vallandry, this same spirit guides our efforts toward more sustainable tourism and a vibrant mountain environment, all year round.
