If there are unusual places in the Tarentaise, the Vernettes chapel is certainly one of the main representatives, as Baroque art is magnified here by its architectural splendour, all in a majestic alpine setting.
The mountain is a place where "great spirits" meet, and people have always shown their piety by building monuments that are often singular and in harmony with the alpine context. The Vernettes chapel, classified as a Historic Monument, is one of these unique sites which certainly remains in memory: imagine a sanctuary draped in white, dating back more than 300 years and perched at an altitude of more than 1800 m where a mass is said every Friday morning of the year: striking, isn't it? And that's not all, since this jewel of Baroque art is part of a network of 7 chapels which are all open all year round and whose history children can try to discover through a quiz which is as amusing as it is surprising. And then, from this sun-drenched slope, the view is just as astonishing on the tip of the Aliet, a veritable mineral bell tower that mischievously responds to the chapel: wouldn't we be in a "sacred place"?
